his project offered a unique challenge: the size of the home was adequate, but they wanted a more open floor plan that combined the formal and informal areas. The main living area was closed off from the rest of the home. Additionally our client was in need of a home office to be incorporated into the floor plan without adding too much additional space. There were not enough outdoor covered areas and our clients wanted their outdoor space to feel like a garden.
Removing the wall between the living room and informal area achieved the desired open floor plan. A large arch with columns allows the two rooms to flow together, but with a floating bar as well to provide separation. The bar makes a dramatic statement with the onyx countertop that is lit from below.
The kitchen area is now the hub of the home! A custom hood highlights the cooking center with a gas cook top and Thermador appliances are used throughout. The latte-colored center island allows the owners optimal interaction with guests. It combines beautifully with the maple wall cabinetry that’s finished with a rich chocolate glaze. One inch by one inch glass tiles accent the cabinets and back splash.
The master bedroom boasts a beautiful new ceiling complete with rope lighting in the center circle while wood flooring and ceiling molding highlight the room. In the master bathroom the shower, commode room and tub deck were redesigned to accommodate a nautilus walk-in shower, with the front tub deck curved with an overhang lip that hides rope lighting. The custom vanity is showcased with columns and an arch soffit with center storage to divide his and her cabinetry.
The two remaining guest rooms received new impact windows, crown molding, and wood flooring. The guest baths received cabinets and granite tops. The showers were updated with stone tiles and stone and glass accents. One of the guest bath tubs was changed to a walk-in shower. Stone pebbles form a pathway as you enter the bath and travel into the shower and extend up the shower wall. These same stone pebbles form a back splash above the vanity.
The aluminum pool cage was changed to concrete block with stucco columns and arches. The pool was reconfigured, and a dark bottom was added to enhance it’s appearance. The deck was expanded and planting areas added. A stone faced spa was added and a casita was built to allow for more covered outdoor seating. One gets the true “Tuscan” feel with the tongue and groove wood, beamed ceiling and rustic fireplace.
